At 16h00 I got off the phone with Nigel Dott from Drifter Adventure Centre. They have agreed to sponsor a fair portion of my gear for Everest. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to “the guys” for their endless help and long-term support of my climbing career.
Hears to a safe and now, warm summit.

What better way to start a Monday than to receive a giant box from First Ascent with your name on it. My Down Suit arrived today, along a whole pile of the most awesome technical climbing clothing and accessories. First Ascent have been generous in sponsoring close on R20 000 worth of great gear. I look forward to strutting my big red suit all the way to the top. A huge thank you goes to Andrew and Morné at First Ascent. Go check out the awesome stuff at www.firstascent.co.za.

Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to summit Mount Everest, passed away on 10 January 2008 after several days in hospital. The New Zealander was 88 years old and had been ill for several weeks.
Hillary and Tenzing Norgay (died 1986) were heroes in the eyes of mountaineers worldwide, myself included. The iconic photograph of Tenzing standing atop Everest (10 May, 1953) is known across the globe, having inspired people from all over world and from all walks of life. Hillary’s work in the Himilaya did not end with his summit. Sir Edmund built several schools and hospitals throughout Nepal and Tibet through the foundation he created.
The man may have passed, but his legacy continues.

I will be doing an interview on SAfm Radio tomorrow, Saturday 12 January at 16h30. (fm 104-107)
Please tell as many people as possible to increase the reach of the project and hopefully help generate more funding for CANSA. The last interview I did led to a very promising contact, so let’s hold thumbs.
I hope Bill Gates, Richard Branson and Oprah listen to SAfm.
